Ammonia nitrogen exposure caused structural damages to gill mitochondria of clam Ruditapes philippinarum

چکیده

Ammonia nitrogen has been one of the key pollution indicators along Chinese coastline for quite a few years. Our previous studies have proved that ammonia is harmful Ruditapes philippinarum clam in several aspects. Environmental concentrations were found to significantly decrease ATP contents and disturb metabolism, addition reducing potential across mitochondrial membrane gill tissues. Accordingly, mitochondrion considered as target organelles toxicity clams. However, there lack direct evidence prove it. In order reveal detail information on mitochondria screen related biomarker indicate pollution, parameters tissues including swelling, mtDNA copy number marker enzyme (succinic dehydrogenase, SDH) activity measured after clams exposed 0.1 mg/L 0.5 3 days 21 days, respectively. Moreover, adverse effects exposure ultra-structures, swelling division also discriminated under transmission electron microscope (TEM). Final results showed both induced reduced messed their normal structure, decreased copies down-regulated SDH activity, all concentration duration dependent manner. So, present study helps us better understand structural damage cells provides fundamental data control aquaculture.

Dispersal, recurrence and settlement of Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum

The majority of the marine benthos is pelagic in their larval stage. The Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum, is widely distributed on sandy tidal flats across Japan and a commercially important shellfish. The clam has a planktonic larval stage, which lasts 2 to 3 weeks after hatching. In this stage, the most clam larvae are able to disperse over wide areas with the currents and then settle on ...

Hemocytes of the carpet shell clam ( Ruditapes decussatus) and the Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum): Current knowledge and future prospects

Hemocytes are the immune effectors in clams, directing cellular but also humoral defences. In the Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) and the carpet shell clam (Ruditapes decussatus), two phenotypically similar venerid species, fishery and aquaculture importance motivated scientific studies to improve knowledge about the participation of hemocytes in immune response. Currently, gaps still per...

Metabolic responses of clam Ruditapes philippinarum exposed to its pathogen Vibrio tapetis in relation to diet.

We investigated the effect of brown ring disease (BRD) development and algal diet on energy reserves and activity of enzymes related to energy metabolism, antioxidant system and immunity in Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum. We found that algal diet did not impact the metabolic response of clams exposed to Vibrio tapetis. At two days post-injection (dpi), activities of superoxide dismutase a...

Physiological performance of the intertidal Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) to long-term daily rhythms of air exposure

Intertidal organisms, especially the sessile species, often experience long-term periodic air exposure during their lives. Learning the biochemical and physiological responses of intertidal organisms to long-term periodic air exposure and the relationship to duration of air exposure provides insight into adaptation to this variably stressful environment. We studied the Manila clam, Ruditapes ph...

Burrowing responses of the short-neck clam Ruditapes philippinarum to sediment contaminants.

The burrowing responses of a common tropical bivalve, the short-neck clam Ruditapes philippinarum, to cadmium (Cd)-spiked sediment, variations of sediment grain size and natural sediments collected from 15 locations in Hong Kong's inshore waters were investigated through a series of laboratory tests. Results showed that the burrowing response exhibited a negative relationship with an increase i...
